The Rainforest

Looking at this sculptural work, the first impression that emerges is wealth. The wealth of color, shapes, ensembles. Like a tropical forest, the outer landscape seems almost impenetrable, dense, wet, multiplied in the smallest details, growing on itself. The calligraphic drawing in compact, distinct black strokes differentiates and crossing areas of color and structure in an almost explosive manner. The drawing reveals a perpetual motion as if the rain continues to fall on the landscape captured in the glass. The colors have their own light, they are raw and wet, and looking at them you are aware of the fact that they will never be otherwise, they are colors born from the raindrops reflected infinitely on the imagined vegetation, lush, full of vigor.

About the artist

Ioan Nemtoi is one of Europe’s most popular contemporary glass artists. He works from his studio in Botosani, Romania – the hometown where he was born and spent his youth.

Graduating from the Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts in 1991, Nemtoi set out to make his mark on the world of glass art. And with his great skill and singularly unique approach to glassmaking he has certainly achieved that goal.

Nemtoi is especially renowned for his use of colors and the unique marbling effect he creates with multiple layers of molten glass. His exquisite glass art creations including vases, perfume bottles, bowls, candleholders and plates have been displayed in some of the most prestigious galleries and museums in Europe.
