Solar Explosion

This sculpture having a circular base, grows into an almost angular shape and is completed by tonic applications of color contrasted strongly by touches of black. The work captures in the stillness of the glass a fragment of a solar explosion, each drawn curve recalling the dynamic energy of this cosmic event. The work is an invitation to explore the raw force of the universe captured in the stillness of glass and brings a dose of energy and vitality to the installation space.

About the artist

Ioan Nemtoi is one of Europe’s most popular contemporary glass artists. He works from his studio in Botosani, Romania – the hometown where he was born and spent his youth.

Graduating from the Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts in 1991, Nemtoi set out to make his mark on the world of glass art. And with his great skill and singularly unique approach to glassmaking he has certainly achieved that goal.

Nemtoi is especially renowned for his use of colors and the unique marbling effect he creates with multiple layers of molten glass. His exquisite glass art creations including vases, perfume bottles, bowls, candleholders and plates have been displayed in some of the most prestigious galleries and museums in Europe.
